HAPPY BIRTHDAY BILL PEET!

Today is legendary storyman/children's book illustrator Bill Peet's birthday! Yesterday at work we had a celebration to honor the man and his work. We brought in originals we owned, pinned up a bunch of his drawings, the Animation Research Library brought over a bunch of his work from Dalmations, Susie the little Blue Couple and Alice in Wonderland and we all toasted the man whose work we admire. The originals were really inspiring to look at! Here's a couple of photos before the event.

Happy Birthday Bill Peet!

I'm glad Bill Peet still gets that kind of recognition around the studio. I recently discovered all of his children's books- I think I knew of one or two of them as a kid but found most of them at my local library with my daughter and love them all. I love how clear and simple his staging is and how beautifully done all of his figures are. And just about every witch (of which there are many in his stories) is a barely disguised Mad Madame Mim. I've often wondered if Disney has ever considered using any of his original stories for either a short or feature subject- just to start a film out with his sort of old school material would be an interesting idea.
